LRTC is typically the busiest large animal response team in the USA, responding to an average of over 500 calls for service per year, in addition to engaging in range projects and rehab activities.
Responses include removing horses and other livestock from highways and freeways, technical rescues, relocating "problem" horses from locations such as parks and ball fields, responding to injured horses and livestock, recovering orphaned range foals, responding to vehicle crashes involving livestock, providing rehabilitation care, as well as providing education relating to large animal safety, particularly targeting youth.
There are all sorts of reasons to join. You can volunteer as a responder or as someone assisting with logistics or ground support. You can help with stakeholder and youth outreach. You can help fundraise or just chip in financially. (As an all-volunteer organization, what we can accomplish is directly tied to our budget.) Our volunteers are constantly involved in some aspect of large animal rescue and public safety.
Come join the team!
(To be a state recognized technical rescue responder, you will have to qualify, however the required training is provided by LRTC.)
