Volunteers Training for Emergencies

  Volunteer Opportunities with Horses
Updated August 15, 2023

LRTC operates and also is affiliated with a number of programs involving horses. Most often volunteers are needed for horses being rehabilitated or are special needs, and to care for orphan foals.

Most of the orphan foals start at the Wild Horse Connection orphan foal corrals. On first arrival they need around-the-clock care so volunteers work shifts. As they get older and require less constant care, they can benefit from being handled and becoming comfortable in the "human" environment.

As the foals mature, being guided on "adventures" helps develop their self-confidence and physical abilities.

Occasionally a mature horse will be brought in from an unfortunate situation. They benefit from some confidence building around supportive humans.

For more information regarding working with the foals, please visit Wild Horse Connection for more information.

For working with the more mature rescue and rehab horses, please email Tracy Wilson for more information.
