  SHOVELS AND DIGGING TOOLS

Updated June 7, 2025

Shovels are important for many reasons, including leveling ground for ground pads.

The units carry a variety of digging and prying tools including shovels, prying bars and Gorilla Bars.

SHOVELS

We use short D-handled round point and square point shovels for rescue work, sometimes in conjunction with a Polaski tool.

Tac Support-1: Polaski tool and shovels in compartment 5.

Rescue-1: Stored in compartment 2.
Rescue-2: Stored in compartment 5.

DIGGING BARS

For clearing rocks and debris, the Gorilla Bar and pinch point or tamping bars can be useful.

Rescue-1: Rear upper compartment.

The large bars are stored in the same areas on the response units as the other bars.
