OLYMPIC WILD HORSE & BURRO PROJECT
Part Six

8-26-01; DONKEY DAY!

We were worried that with all the attention given to the horses, coupled with the fact that we didn't have a separate gentling pen set up for them, that the burros would fall behind in the training schedule. Of course we sometimes forget that burros, afterall, are burros and if you can get them relaxed and curious, they can learn things anywhere.

Patty and the Family Van Schaik descended on the burro pen on Sunday. They kept things fun and interesting, and as we have discovered in the past, a "herd" of non threatening humans is oftentimes easier for the donks to deal with than a single "predator" roaming the pen.

These burros don't look like they are too far from being tame and they seemed to be enjoying all the attention.

The horses also got some attention. Hue Simpson spent some time with "Big K" applying some light body massage and T-touches. As his headset reveals, he is becoming more relaxed and less dreadful that something bad is bound to follow. She also got back to his hip without him wanting to push her around with his rump.
