What Least Resistance

Part Five -
About the horse - Putting it all together

Keno

The horse in this sequence, Keno, was an untrainable BLM wild mare that challenged everyone. By taking her through these simple steps we were able to keep her emotions under control and she could learn. While Keno was still somewhat of a challenge, she definitely was not untrainable and came a long way in about 30 days.

Furthermore, the untrainable horse became a useful saddle horse and has been used as a presentation horse representing BLM mustangs for public school field trips and public functions.

A great looking horse

Relaxed at the tie pole
Easy to halter
Taking a saddle unrestrained
Standing quietly while the
saddle is rocked and stirrup leathers
are slapped against her sides
Still curious and relaxed although
wearing a saddle for the first time
Off lead and still tracked in
Moving nicely with the saddle
and responding to the "draw" and other
round pen cues
A desirable outcome
Taking obstacles on voice command
Walking into a trailer
Demonstrating for school kids
An appreciated horse
