Alternative Habitat Projects

LRTC has worked with the Virginia Range Wildlife Protection Association, the Let 'Em Run Foundation, the Nevada Dept. of Agriculture and BLM to obtain and develop long term alternative habitats for wild horses displaced by development in northwestern Nevada. These activities have included range reclamation and study projects where property owners reciprocate by allowing bands of wild horses to roam free on substantial (10,000 acres or larger) parcels.

Such projects involve accurately estimating range conditions, establishing managed populations, providing sufficient water and restoring grass and riparian communities.

Evaluating range forage conditions.
Horses coming in to see what the volunteers are up to.
Keeping records on the condition of the horses.
