Janet's 10-11-01 Update

We had a great day today. We had a couple of new mentors come out Nancy Gray from West Jordan and Russ Evans from Fountain Green. So we had a total of 5 of us there tonight. The most people at one time the horses have had. Moose again stole the show. He is ever so willing and as soon as you show him that it won't hurt him he is very eager to do what you are asking him. Nancy worked on trailer loading, which Moose is now a pro at. She also did some grooming. We had our first really good rain storm today since the boys arrived and boy was Moose a mess. She also worked on picking up feet and cleaning them out. Then she did some work with a saddle blanket and desensitizing him to its movement.

Frosty was being a little on the "stubborn" side. We are having difficulty getting him to move forward. If he doesn't see any point in doing something there isn't a whole lot that will convince him to do it. So we will be doing some brainstorming to see what his motivators are. He is a very smart horse and we just have to learn to be smarter. He really isn't scared of us or anything.

As we were wrapping up for the night I pulled Yogi out of his stall for a little work. He has come such a long way in the last 2 weeks. He is much more polite and willing to try and a real joy to be around. He leads very well and will let me pet from his face to the top of his butt on both sides. He was allowing me to scratch his belly from the left side tonight and also he lifted his left front foot for me very nicely.

Moose, naturally, continued to come along nicely.
